Band 7 $93,810 - $104,964 per annum plus 10.5% statutory superannuation

Wellington Shire Council is currently seeking experienced Accountant with a background in projects to join our Finance business unit on a temporary full-time basis.  

As the Accountant - Projects, you will work as a key member of the Finance team to develop and implement accounting projects across the organisation as identified by the Manager Corporate Finance and Coordinator Accounting and Payroll.

In this role, you will be responsible for the delivery and implementation of key finance projects across the organisation, managing stakeholder relationships and providing finance expertise, advice, and guidance.

Key responsibilities include:               

  • Lead, develop and deliver key financial projects across Wellington Shire Council in line with the Council Plan and objectives.
  • Implementation of new systems and efficiencies in the Finance business unit and across the organisation.
  • Work collaboratively with key stakeholders and maintain and manage relationships to achieve outcomes.
  • Prepare and deliver accurate financial reports compliant with accounting standards and legislation.

As our ideal candidate, you will have previous experience in commercial accounting, the implementation of new systems and the development of reporting processes. Experience in Civica operations is desirable.

Applicants who have a commercial accounting background in addition to project management experience with a high level of stakeholder management skills are encouraged to apply!  

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate how they meet the criteria below:

  • Tertiary qualification in Accounting with CPA/CA designation.
  • Demonstrated experience in the preparation of financial reports and budgets with sound knowledge and understanding of accounting standards. 
  • Proven experience in development and delivery of finance projects in accordance with relevant accounting standards and other applicable legislation.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to negotiate and influence to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement new systems with a high level of proficiency in computer-based accounting and finance systems.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, and manage time efficiently.
