Permanent full-time

Band 5 $68,035 – 78,202 per annum plus 9.5% statutory superannuation 

Wellington Shire Council is seeking an experienced individual to join our valued Local Laws team in the role of Local Laws Officer.  

This exciting opportunity will have you engaging with the community of Wellington Shire to provide advice, education and enforcement as necessary to ensure compliance within the municipality is achieved.

You will perform a diverse range of tasks including responding to customer enquiries, supporting the implementation of fire prevention programs, carrying out Local Laws infringement processes and assisting in the management of domestic animal and livestock complaints.

To be successful in this role, you will require a strong customer focus, demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation and the impacts to local laws issues, well developed conflict resolution skills and the ability to negotiate with a diverse range of people. A current Victorian driver’s licence is essential.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate how they meet the criteria below: 

  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.  
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills when dealing with customers.   
  • Experience in enforcement processes and reading and interpreting Acts, Regulations and Local Laws.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in animal management with Certificate IV in Animal Management (preferred).
