Municipal Fire Prevention Officer

Band 6 $77,474 - $84,329 per annum plus 9.5% statutory superannuation
We currently have a permanent full-time vacancy in our Community & Culture team for a Municipal Fire Prevention Officer (MFPO). The MFPO works collaboratively with Wellington Shire Council employees, relevant authorities and the community to ensure that Council complies with fire prevention statutory obligation as outlined in the Country Fire Authority Act 1958. The incumbent will work strategically to continually develop and maintain a ‘partnership approach’ to fire management based on relationships at all levels within the organisation, the community and external agencies.
The MFPO has the additional role of Deputy Municipal Emergency Resource Officer (DMERO) and is one of a team of DMERO’s responsible for providing assistance to the Municipal Emergency Manager (MEM) and the Municipal Emergency Resource Officer (MERO) during times of emergency response.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate how they meet the criteria below:
- Demonstrated ability in leading and motivating teams; encouraging initiative, innovation and problem solving.
- Experience in planning, managing and implementing fire prevention requirements and enforcing legislation such as the Country Fire Authority Act 1958.
- Proven project management experience including the ability to prioritise and work effectively in situations where there may be competing priorities.
- Demonstrated experience in fire prevention requirements and fire behaviour together with working with IT software including mapping programs.
- Ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of people at all levels.
